Situated on the beautiful island of Borneo, Sabah is one of the thirteen states which Malaysia is made of. Sabah is the second largest state in Malaysia and shares the island of Borneo with Sarawak, Brunei, and Indonesian Kalimantan.

Sabah has it all, from the world’s largest flower - the Rafflesia, one of the highest mountains in South East Asia - Mount Kinabalu, to one of the world’s top dive sites - Sipadan Island.
Sabah is also known for her great natural treasures which include the world-renowned Danum Valley Conservation Area and Tabin which is Sabah’s largest wildlife reserve.
About this holiday
This Borneo journey is a combination of a short stop in Kota Kinabalu, a few days of exploration in Borneo and a week relaxing at the beautiful Gaya Island Resort.
You'll begin with 3 nights on the coast near Kota Kinabalu. We have suggested a stay at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria. It's a great place to ease into your Borneo holiday. If you prefer to do something different, just let us know - everything can be tailored for you.
We have included a full day excursion to Kinabalu National Park and Poring Hot Springs which will give you a taste of things to come.
From Kota Kinabalu you'll fly the short hop to Sandakan and have a night at Sepilok Nature Resort with a visit to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Sun Bear Sanctuary included.
From here you'll head off by boat to the Kinabatangan River for two days of wildlife viewing in this magical part of Borneo. You'll head out in the mornings and evenings by electric boat in seach of wildlife along the riverbanks.
You'll be staying at the award winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge, the best lodge in the Kinabatangan River area.
The second half of your Borneo adventure will be in the the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. This sizable Malaysian island has been protected as a reserve since the early 1920's.
Gaya Island Resort is a luxury resort offering some of the best accommodation in Borneo and is the ideal complement to a wildlife tour of Borneo. We've included your stay on a b&b basis but if you prefer Full Board, just let us know.
